WELCOME PARTY

Tuesday, June 21st, 2016

19:30 - 22:00

We are glad to announce that the welcome party will be held in The Botanical Garden or "Garden of Simples".

The Botanical Garden or “Garden of Simples” was created by the Medici in 1545 as the garden of medicinal plants (simples). Thus it is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world.

"A Public Place, where ... native plants of very diverse climates and countries are cultivated, such that young Students can, in a small space, learn to recognize them with ease and celerity" (Luca Ghini, 1543).

The Garden covers more than two hectares, both indoors and outdoors. The hot and cold greenhouses, built in the 19th century and the largest in Italy, contain tropical and subtropical plants, the most important being the collection of Cycads, Ficus, Palms, an ancient citrus collection, succulent and aquatic plants, and a rich collection of plants with traditional ethnobotanical uses.
