ABSTRACT

Metamaterials are composite materials engineered on a scale much smaller than the wavelength so as to tailor the effective response in a desired fashion, and can possibly transcend the limitations of the single material constituents. For instance, in electromagnetics, effects such as negative refraction, superlensing, and invisibility cloaking have been demonstrated. These concepts are now attracting a steadily increasing interest in different physical disciplines (e.g., acoustics, mechanics, thermodynamics), and multiphysics applications are also being proposed.

This special session is aimed at showcasing metamaterial applications in aerospace scenarios, with special emphasis on measurement and characterization aspects. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Stealth applications
  • Cloaking
  • Absorbers
  • Metasurfaces
  • Device miniaturization
  • Effective parameter extraction
  • Multiphysics applications
