IEEE MetroAeroSpace 2022 will have the following awards, which will be announced and bestowed at the Conference Closing Ceremony.



Best Conference Paper Award

sensorsThis award recognizes the most outstanding paper presented at IEEE MetroAeroSpace Workshop.
The Best Conference Paper Award is sponsored by MDPI Sensors Journal.

The author of the awarded paper, and co-authors if any, will be entitled to:

  • A prize money amounting to 600 CHF;
  • A waiver on the Article Processing Charges (APCs) for the extended version of the Best Paper on MDPI Sensors;
  • A signed and stamped official Award Certificate;
  • The announcement of their achievement on a special conference webpage.


Basis for Judging: A selection committee will be appointed by the IEEE MetroAeroSpace Awards Committee Chairs. Papers are judged based on technical merit, originality, potential impact on the field, clarity of the written paper, and quality of the conference presentation.

Presentation: The award will be announced and presented at the IEEE MetroAeroSpace Closing Ceremony.

This award recognizes the best paper authored and presented by a researcher younger than 35 years in age.

The author of the awarded paper, and co-authors if any, will be entitled to:

Best Paper Award for Aerospace and Electronic Systems

award aesThe AES Chapter - IEEE Italy Section is proud to endorse 1 Best Paper Award for Aerospace and Electronic Systems at the 2022 IEEE International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace with an Award Parchment and 500 EURO. The field of interest shall be the organization, systems engineering, design, development, integration, and operation of complex systems for space, air, ocean, or ground environments. These systems include but are not limited to navigation, avionics, mobile electric power and electronics, radar, sonar, telemetry, military, law-enforcement, automatic test, simulators, and command and control..

Domenico Ciuonzo is an Assistant Professor at Dept. Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies (DIETI) of University of Naples, Federico II, Italy. He was born in Aversa, Italy, on June 29, 1985. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. (summa cum laude) degrees in computer engineering and the Ph.D. degree from University of Campania "L. Vanvitelli", Aversa, Italy, in 2007, 2009, and 2013, respectively.

In 2013-2014, he was a Post-Doctoral Researcher at Dept. Industrial and Information Engineering, Second University of Naples, Italy. From 2014 to 2016, he was a Post-Doctoral Researcher with DIETI, University of Naples, Federico II, Italy. During 2017-18, he was a permanent Researcher at NM-2 s.r.l., Naples, Italy.
In 2018 and 2020, he obtained the Scientific National Habilitation for “Associate Professor” and “Full Professor” from the Italian Ministry for University and Research (MIUR) in the “Telecommunications” sector. In 2011, he was involved in the Visiting Researcher Programme of NATO CMRE, La Spezia, Italy. In 2012, he was a Visiting Scholar with the Dept. Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT, USA. In 2015-16 and 2018, he held visiting appointments at the Dept. Electronics and Telecommunications, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway and at Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), Castelldefels (Barcelona), Spain.
Since 2014 he has served as Associate Editor for several IET, Elsevier and IEEE journals. Currently, he is an Area Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems and an Executive Editor for the IEEE Communications Letters. His reviewing and editorial activities were recognized by the IEEE Communications Letters, IEEE Transactions on Communications, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, and MDPI, which nominated him Exemplary Reviewer and Editor, respectively. Since 2016 he is an IEEE Senior Member.

His research interests fall within the areas of network traffic analytics, artificial intelligence, IoT & wireless sensor networks, data fusion and wireless communications. He has co-authored 100+ journal (IEEE TNSM, IEEE TNSE, Elsevier Comp. Net., etc.) and conference (Globecom, ICC, TMA, ITC, etc.) publications. His work has been cited 3.5k times to date (H-index = 36).
He received Best Paper Awards from IEEE ICCCS (in 2019) and Elsevier Computer Networks (in 2020). In 2019, he was the recipient of the "Exceptional Service Award" from the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS). In 2020, he received the early-career "Technical Achievement Award" from the IEEE Sensors Council within "Sensor Systems or Networks" area.
He is co-author of the book “Data Fusion in Wireless Sensor Networks: A Statistical Signal Processing Perspective”, published by IET in March 2019. He has served as project proposal evaluator for several funding agencies (UK, EU, Australia, Qatar, etc.), with a recent distinction from EPSRC.
